Freedom From Anxiety

Life with anxiety can make you miserable. It robs people of peace and the joy of life. What if I told you there was a path to living life free of anxiety? It may seem foreign, especially since we live in a stressful world however it is very possible to take charge of anxiety. Mindfulness and relaxation can be used in multiple ways to reduce stress and better manage anxiety. It entails tuning into your five senses and using them to calm your mind and body. It is important to recognize the physical ques of anxiety then once you identify those warning signs you can begin practicing mindfulness and relaxation to bring calm. Smell is especially powerful especially when it comes to memory. It can

Ray of Hope

In a world of chaos, stress and dark places we need to see hope. When things are going wrong in our world and the world around us it is good to see the good things to help us remember there will be better days ahead. Even on the most stressful days there are rays of hope and encouragement that shine through. I remember one morning driving to my clinic practice. Everything seemed to be going wrong, traffic was bad, there were delays, and of course when I arrived at our office building there was zero parking. As I pulled into a very crowded street my anxiety was rising but I turned into the parking lot, hoping to find a spot, somewhere. Just as I was driving up, someone in the front parking sp

Coping Creatively With Anxiety

One secret to getting a better handle on anxiety is finding really great ways to cope! Sometimes the creative outlets are the most effective! Art and music are great tools people can use to reduce stress. When you live with less stress, you have less anxiety. Painting, creating with clay, coloring, drawing or writing are great ways to unwind from the day, express feelings and rid yourself of emotional stress. The beauty of art is there is no one way to do it. You have complete freedom to create whatever you feel at the moment. This can be very freeing. It is a great way to decompress. Add some instrumental music and you are headed toward a perfect get away from anxiety!

Living with Mood Disorders

Struggling with mood disorders can be very difficult. Depression robs millions of people of energy, enjoyment of life, and produces negative thoughts. Some individuals even report physical symptoms of fatigue, aches and pains. Bipolar can cause people to feel like they are on a roller coaster with no way of stopping. Today we are going to talk about how people living with mood disorders can find ways of coping with the stress of life and get on the road to feeling better. People can feel shame and often blame themselves for the negativity they face. It is important to remember mood disorders do not define us. We are not what our depression tells us we are. Once we can identify the depression

Struggling with Sleep?

Many people that struggle with depression also struggle with sleep. It could be getting little sleep or sleeping too much. The effects can cause you to feel tired all the time and struggle through the day. There is a way to better sleep and here are some helpful tips. First, find a good bedtime routine. If you are like me and most people you struggle to put down your digital devices and especially at night. Being on your phone or computer can hinder you from relaxing and getting to sleep. It may be a good idea to put your devices away at least one hour before you plan to go to sleep. This way you will not be overstimulated. Next, find a way to wind down from your day. Maybe it is reading a b

DeStress with Self Care

Stress is something we all struggle with and it can be really difficult to get on top of. I work with many clients to develop a good self care plan and set a routine to handle stress. First, you must think of the difficulties you personally struggle with on a day to day basis. What are those identified problems? This week we have been talking about mood disorders. If you are among those who struggle with depression perhaps hopelessness, guilt, fatigue and difficulty focusing are just a few of the problems you face every day. Next, think of activities you find helpful to you. If you struggle with hopelessness it could be reading an encouraging quote. Maybe it’s sitting down with coloring penc
